Foreign Investment in Agriculture in Myanmar – FDI, Stakeholder Mapping and National Legal and Policy Assessment

The book reviews the current situation as well as policies related to foreign agricultural investment in Myanmar. More specifically, it talks about the situation in terms of Myanmar’s agricultural food production, privatisation of the agricultural sector and foreign investment, trends in Foreign Direct Investment, and other informal foreign investments in the agricultural sector. It also discusses legal issues in agricultural investment, stakeholder mapping and power analysis, and vulnerability analysis, and seeks to highlight the implications these factors have on smallholder farmers and their livelihoods. An overview of two prominent industrial agricultural crops ‒ rubber and oil palm ‒ is also given in the Appendix. By providing this kind of information on Myanmar’s agricultural investment, this book could help Chinese enterprises better avoid risks when pursuing business and help them make rational investment decisions.
